White House Vase
The original White House Vase (WHV) was designed in 1993 for the White House Craft Collection. In 1993 Sidney returned from a show in Chicago to find a letter requesting that he make a piece for inclusion in the first ever White House Crafts Collection. He designed this new sculptural fine art form, distinctive in shape yet complimentary to his signature Plate Glass Vase pieces. He mixed a special dyed mixture of red, white and blue and came up with a new purple dye to add to the adhesive. This opportunity was a turning point in his career as it promoted a new awareness and respect for the craft and the arts. White House Vase #1 now resides in the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas.
