White House Vase
The original White House Vase (WHV) was designed in 1993 for the White House Craft Collection. In 1993 Sidney returned from a show in Chicago to find a letter requesting that he make a piece for inclusion in the first ever White House Crafts Collection. He designed this new form, distinctive in shape yet complimentary to his signature Plate Glass Vase pieces. He mixed a special dyed mixture of red, white and blue and came up with a new purple dye to add to the adhesive. This opportunity was a turning point in his career as it promoted a new awareness and respect for the craft and the arts.
White House Vase #1 now resides in the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas.
