One day, during the process of packing a Plate Glass Vase, Sid gently laid the piece on its side. With this new viewing angle, he noticed a difference in the optical qualities of the light as it passed through color in the planar surface of the glass rather than just at the edge of the glass. So he flipped the bottom half of the vessel on its side and created the Vertical Vases design. The larger surface area allows for more depth of field and painterly color landscapes. This sculptural fine art series is technically challenging, as the top and bottom of the circles making up the base need to be meticulously ground and polished before laminating to the top and base. Vertical Vases are crafted from 1/4" glass circles and altering 1/2" glass bars.
