Sculpture
This series of unique sculptures was designed and created by Sidney during his time in graduate school at Massachusetts College of Art in the late 1970s. He was in a unique position of creating art uninhibited by financial pressures. He immersed himself in the idea of making large-scale glass sculptures based on historical glass research and influenced by his interest in architecture and work by his hero, David Smith. After graduate school, he started Sidney Hutter Glass & Light, Inc., in part with funding from grants and a personal benefactor. He focused on his Plate Glass Vase series and entered the gallery world. Now, 30 years later, it is inspiring to look back at the complex and unique pieces created during that time of freedom and ultimate creativity.
